Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence shared words of encouragement for New England Patriots rookie Drake Maye after the Jaguars’ 32-16 win over the Patriots in London.
Lawrence was put in a similar position to Maye when he began his NFL career. The Jaguars went 3-14 in his rookie season, but he helped get the team over the hump the following season and clinched a playoff berth.
Lawrence performed well on Sunday against the Patriots. He threw for 193 yards and a touchdown in a game where the Jacksonville offense out-muscled the Patriots’ defense.
Meanwhile, Maye went 26-of-37 passing for 276 yards and two touchdowns.
“I just told him after the game, he’s a great player, and just to keep his head down, keep working,” Lawerence told reporters, per a team-provided transcript, via NESN.com’s Gayle Troiani. “Just try to learn something every week. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You’ve got to keep your confidence.”
The development process is going to be important for Maye with the Patriots trying to build a solid team around him. Here’s hoping the process yields results sooner rather than later.
