Two ex-New England Patriots defenders didn’t appreciate Apple’s “The Dynasty.”
Speaking about the documentary series for Pro Football Talk, Devin McCourty and Rodney Harrison Jr. expressed their disappointment in the final product. McCourty, who won three Super Bowls during his 13-season career in New England, doesn’t think “The Dynasty” paid enough attention to the team’s successes.
“I felt like I got kind of duped,” McCourty said. “I was like man, this is going to be great — the storytelling, we’re talking about this and we’re talking about that. Everything that we all gave to the 20 years that it encompassed, they only hit anything that was negative.”
Harrison shared a similar sentiment, saying the production crew cherry-picked his negative soundbites.
“I mean, I interviewed for five or six hours I was in New York, and all they had me saying was, ‘F**k ’em all. F**k ’em all,'” Harrison claimed. “Like, that’s it.”
Harrison also didn’t like the documentary’s portrayal of Bill Belichick. The former All-Pro defensive back thinks the legendary head coach received too much blame for New England’s recent downfall without putting his legacy into proper perspective.
“They act like the last three or four years, ’cause the Patriots have struggled, that Bill can’t coach,” Harrison said. “Bill made some mistakes and he wasn’t always the nicest or the purest guy, but at the end of the day he always did whatever he had to do to make the team better.”
McCourty noted that he “could have left two times” but ultimately stayed to play for Belichick. Harrison added that Belichick gave opportunities to several late-round draft picks and overlooked free agents.
“I just don’t think he got enough credit, enough respect, enough props,” Harrison said. “Man, this dude is the greatest coach of all time.”
Harrison said he “stopped watching” because it focused too much on drama surrounding Belichick, Tom Brady, and Robert Kraft.
