As Bill Belichick’s time in New England looks increasingly numbered, a pair of NFC teams are reportedly keeping close tabs on the Patriots HC.
According to Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback, the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders are the teams “most connected” to Belichick. Saying on the “Dan Patrick Show” that the Washington stuff “has been out there for a while.”
That one’s interesting to me just because if you look at the history of things, we’ve seen when teams bring in older coaches with a track record it’s usually a credibility play. … It would make sense if you’re trying to restore credibility to your organization if you’re Josh Harris. And Josh Harris would be able to negotiate with the Patriots because he went to Harvard Business School with Jonathan Kraft and they’ve had a relationship going back over 30 years.
NBC’s Peter King has also been on this story, speculating that if Mike McCarthy has another quick playoff exit in Dallas he could be on the chopping block.
There’s no doubt that if Belichick were to hit coaching free agency he’d draw the eyes of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
We’ll see what happens in 2024.
