A couple of teams are ready to pounce on Bill Belichick if he ends up parting ways with the New England Patriots next week.
Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Washington Commanders and Las Vegas Raiders are hoping to meet with Belichick should he become available.
The Raiders are already looking for a new full-time head coach after firing Josh McDaniels but the Commanders have yet to make a move regarding Ron Rivera. It’s expected that there will be changes inside the organization but his status for next year remains up in the air, as does Belichick’s.
The Patriots are expected to have a meeting between owner Robert Kraft and Belichick and that could determine what direction the team goes in.
If it leads to a split, a bidding war could take place pretty quickly.
Belichick has been the head coach of the Patriots for the last 24 years. During that time, he has won 266 games and has led the franchise to six Super Bowls.
Despite all that success, the franchise hasn’t won a playoff game since 2018 and has finished below .500 in three of the last four NFL seasons.
