Both served as standard elevations Sunday against the 49ers.
Tight end Mitchell Wilcox and defensive tackle Trysten Hill reverted to the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Monday after taking the field at Levi’s Stadium.
Both veterans served as standard elevations for the 30-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Wilcox, 27, worked as the third tight end behind Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper as rookie Jaheim Bell became a healthy scratch on Sunday. He played 17 snaps on special teams in his 2024 debut. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound South Florida alum had signed to the practice squad after being released at the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline in August. Entering the league with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted rookie in 2020, Wilcox would appear in 48 games, starting nine, before not being tendered as a restricted free agent. Landing in Foxborough in April, he has caught 29 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown in his career.
Hill, 26, previously served as a call-up for New England’s season opener after making the initial active roster. Under league rules, one standard elevation remains for the 6-foot-3, 310-pound Central Florida product. Hill originally signed to the practice squad last fall following a workout and has seen 14 defensive snaps this campaign. Since being selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2019 draft at No. 58 overall, he has also logged stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns. Through 34 games, including five starts, Hill stands with 39 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
The practice squad carries an open spot after cornerback Isaiah Bolden’s promotion to the 53. The organization moved fellow corner Alex Austin to injured reserve on the eve of the matchup in Santa Clara.
The Miami Dolphins visit Gillette Stadium next Sunday. The AFC East kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
