In case you were thinking of diving into the social media morass that is Red Sox Twitter.
Have you ever wondered just how Red Sox Nation continues to thrive despite a supposed-waning interest in baseball and the team’s continued failure to make it to the postseason? Why, it’s through Red Sox Twitter, of course!
The preeminent community for the average Red Sox fan and shit-poster, Red Sox Twitter is a hub of hilarity, emotion, information, and memes for the 21st century. Because Red Sox Nation is so large, it’s one of the biggest baseball fanbases and communities on the platform, and it makes its voice heard, whether that’s through interacting with official Red Sox posts or rage-baiting Yankees Twitter.
Interested in joining this illustrious group? There are many characters, bits, and jokes to familiarize yourself with, so here’s a basic guide to one of the more boisterous online communities you’ll encounter.
PEOPLE
There are several notable figures within the Red Sox Twitter space. The biggest trolls include DeversEnjoyer, KutterIsKing, unbiasedsoxfan, and Nyanasaur. Their humor certainly isn’t for everyone, and this is particularly true of DeversEnjoyer and KutterIsKing, who have both amassed a (non-literal) hate-following. While the other accounts listed are mainly rage-baiters, DeversEnjoyer is satirical in his content, making clearly ironic and sarcastic posts that go over a lot of people’s heads. Nevertheless, all of these accounts are funny, even if they are often repeating the same jokes over and over again. DeversEnjoyer is a personal favorite of mine, while KutterIsKing is probably the biggest Yankees hater on the entire platform.

The Section 10 podcast has emerged in recent years as the most popular Red Sox podcast, and of its hosts—Jared Carrabis, Tyler Miliken, Steve Perrault, Coley Mick, and Jake Yasi—are active on Twitter. Tyler is a big stats guy and provides a lot of the analytical information regarding Sox players, plus he’s the most up-to-date on the Red Sox farm system and minor leagues; you’ll also see him getting constantly roasted for all the “suspensions” he endured on the latest Section 10 episode. Garrett Mashburn is Section 10’s biggest fanboy, so anywhere you see a post by one of the “10”, you’ll see a Garrett Mashburn reply or RT.
Another important Sox podcast is Pod On Landsdowne, whose members Liam Fennessy, Fitzy Mo Pena (not his real name), and Jake Wallinger are also active online and have written for OTM. Fennessy is a particularly fun follow, and his baseball and sports memes are usually some of the best on the site on any given day. Can’t forget about everyone’s friend Hogdale, either, or zoidbergerer, who does a great job posting specific play calls from both sides of the booth.

Other notable members include SurvivingGrady, a dude who slogged through the Grady Little era and has since gone on to produce Red Sox merch, and JustinMLB, whose humor is very good. There’s also female users ladyredsoxxx and doink patrol (whose name is “todd bonzalez” on Twitter, “doink patrol” is her username). Both women are popular longtime Red Sox Twitter members who post funny quips relating to Red Sox news and moments. Then there’s Thomas Carrieri, who, while an informative poster, has been known to engagement-farm and has been mocked for doing so.
And, if I wanna loudly toot my own horn, there’s me! I’m @casasamiga on Twitter/X. (It’s a play on Casamigos with Casas + amiga because I am a friend who’s a girl, though I’ll have to chance my username if Casas gets traded.) I’m nowhere near as popular, important, or relevant as any of the names I just listed, but I like to think I’m funny. I also will tweet about non-Sox/baseball things occasionally. Pretty much everyone I follow is worth checking out, so if you’re looking for new baseball fan accounts from any fanbase, I suggest you go through my following.
MEMES AND BITS
What’s a good sports community without the memes, right? Here are some (just some!) jokes, gags, and bits that are still funny and still of some importance:
- The Kyle Barraclough Game: This was that game in August of 2023 where our entire pitching staff was so cooked that minor-leaguer Kyle Barraclough was called upon to pitch in a key moment in the fifth inning against the Astros. He got absolutely shelled, and nobody took him out… and still nobody took him out… and still nobody took him out. He pitched the final 4.1 innings of the game and gave up 10 runs. It effectively marked the end of the 2023 Red Sox season, which, for many, was a season to forget. All you could do then was laugh, and it’s still all you can do now. Poor Barraclough never deserved it.
- The 28-5 Game: Ah, July 2022. It was much like July 2024 in that a feeling of playoff potential was in the air! Well, those hopes fell a lot faster that year than this past year. But Sydney Sweeney tossed the first pitch for this July 2022 game, that had to have been good luck! Nope. The Sox lost 28-5 against the Blue Jays, which was the most lopsided MLB game since that 30-3 Orioles-Rangers game back in the aughts. Eovaldi gave up an inside-the-park-grand-slam. Everyone who followed that game as it was happening was in utter disbelief. People were getting texts asking if they were okay. Again, you can only laugh. I like to think that moment was 2020s Red Sox rock-bottom. It’s only up from there, right? (It also appears that that may have been the Blue Jays peak. But that’s an article for another time.)
- “Full Throttle”: This was what the Red Sox front office dubbed the 2023-2024 offseason, promising that they’d put in maximum effort to get the team back to a World Series contender, which…resulted in signing Tyler O’Neill and Lucas Giolito and trading for Vaughn Grissom. Such throttling! It’s a term still used to criticize the Red Sox Front office. Notice how nobody in the organization said “Full Throttle” with their full chest this offseason.
- Liam Fennessy’s Losing Streak: At the beginning of last season, a disturbing pattern emerged: Liam Fennessy would go to a Red Sox game and the Red Sox would lose that game. He was the team’s personal bad-luck charm, and the other POL boys staged an intervention to try to keep him from going to see the Sox. He did, eventually, break the streak, and he even got to watch Pablo Reyes pitch in a Sox blowout for his troubles, but Red Sox Twitter remains suspect.
- The Bullpen Trust-O-Meter: Started by the Section 10 boys and bequeathed to Ed Hand of Pod by the River, the Bullpen Trust-O-Meter ranks the reliability of the Red Sox bullpen on any given day or week. Pitchers we can trust go above pitchers we can’t, but of course the ranks can change depending on how well each pitcher does. The tweet below includes a very classy image of Hogdale.

2. Justin Slaten

- Bello Can’t Pitch During the Day: For the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Brayan Bello always seemed to have trouble pitching well during day games. In the 2023 season, he put up an ugly 6.94 ERA in 10 games started during the day, compared to a 3.06 ERA in 18 night games. He got a better handle on it over the 2024 season, but it remains a joke among the fanbase.
- Christian Arroyo Can’t Find the Ball: This one’s from a moment during a game when Christian Arroyo lost a fly ball in right field and, in a panic, struck a big starfish pose while frantically screaming that he couldn’t find the ball. The image of him freaking out has since become a reaction meme used to reply to team posts announcing they lost to the Red Sox, where “Christian Arroyo Can’t Find Your Team’s W [Win]”.
- “Who has it worse than us?/Nobody has it worse than us”: DeversEnjoyer came up with that one, I think (if he didn’t come up with it, then he’s very strongly associated with it). These are great phrases for anyone to tweet when anything remotely bad is happening to the Red Sox. Obviously, many teams (and people) have it worse than the Red Sox, for different reasons, which is what makes this funny. It’s some good-old-fashioned irony, and when it’s not, it’s just true.

- “#okay”: Another DeversEnjoyer gem, this is a fun Tweet/post-ender for when you’re confused, resigned, or have reached the point of acceptance. The hashtag adds irony! (Maybe you can tell I’m a big fan of ironic and absurdist humor.)
- “BDSM”: This was the Red Sox Twitter team creating the acronym BDSM last season for Big Dom Smith Moments. Of all the innuendo to choose from to make a cool and fun joke for the kids, that was quite a choice! The tweet was deleted, of course, but it lives on in the hearts and souls of Red Sox Twitter.
- Kenley Jansen Quitting The Team: This man was really only loyal to the Dodgers in the end, wasn’t he? He’s now a meme figure within the community for how he effed us over. Chances are he’s re-signing with the Dodgers just like the rest of the entire MLB free agency pool! With deferred pay, of course.
- Dave Bush: I, and a good chunk of Red Sox Twitter, have some choice words about Dave Bush. For the sake of professionalism, I will ask that you imagine those words. There’s really only three of them, and two of them are “that guy”.
- Judge Dropping The Fly Ball in World Series: Self-explanatory. Ever heard of Rule 3? Hop on over to Red Sox Reddit for that one!
There you have it, enough information to get you comfortably into the Red Sox Twitterspace. If I missed something of real note, let me know in the comments!
