Kristian Campbell soared like no other prospect this season to further brighten the future of the Boston Red Sox.
Campbell entered his first full season in professional baseball after the Red Sox selected him in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. The 22-year-old proceeded to play through three levels of the minor leagues this season, gradually making the jump from High-A Greenville to Triple-A Worcester.
In that span, while featuring versatility, Campbell just hit, hit and hit some more. In 115 games, the Red Sox prospect slashed .330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs, 55 extra-base hits and a .997 OPS. His stock rose around the sport and that sentiment was reflected in a number of postseason awards in the minor leagues.
Baseball America named Campbell Minor League Player of the Year for the 2024 season in a standout honor for the Red Sox prospect. Within the Eastern League from his time with Double-A Portland, Campbell earned league MVP honors as well as an All-Star selection alongside Boston’s “Big Three” prospects of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel.
Campbell spoke exclusively with NESN.com toward the end of his Double-A tenure to analyze his development that launched him through Boston’s system.
That list of accolades could still grow with Campbell listed as a finalist for MiLB Hitter of the Year, which will be announced on Sept. 30. That’s a strong resume that should absolutely have him in the running to win a job in the starting lineup for the Red Sox in 2025.
