Brooms brooms brooms
Get out your brooms: the Boston Red Sox might sweep the Kansas City Royals.
Entering the night half a game behind KC, the Sox could return to playoff position with a win.
Kutter Crawford looks like he’s running on fumes. since the break he’s made three starts: 5.0 innings, 6 runs (loss); 4.2 innings, 5 runs (loss); and 5.1 innings, 5 runs (Sox came back to win 11-6). He’s allowed 12 home runs over that time and leads all pitchers in homers allowed at 26. And that’s with zero home runs allowed during April. In almost the same amount of innings last year, over the whole season, he allowed 17 home runs. So something is askew no matter what.
He’s opposed by Cole Ragans who enters with a season 3.36 ERA / 2.82 FIP. Over his last three starts, since the break, he’s allowed a total of 9 runs and 2 home runs. Total. He shut down the Red Sox a few weeks back for 7.0 innings and allowed just a single run to score. That was just before the break, on July 12 at the end of the last run, and the bats have been really hot after a slow start against the Dodgers.
Rob Refsnyder gets the start against a righty.
Danny Jansen catches with Connor Wong playing first base.
Nick Sogard is in the lineup again at shortstop with Romy Gonzalez trying to bring some offense to second base.
First pitch is at 8:10 PM ET on WEEI and NESN.
