Welcome Wisconsin!
The Red Sox come back to Fenway Park on a four-game winning streak and welcoming the Milwaukee Brewers to Boston.
The Brew Crew traded their ace, Corbin Burnes, to the Baltimore Orioles over the winter in something of a step back payroll wise and, in theory, talent wise. And yet, here they are, leading the NL Central at 28-21 with a two game lead over the Chicago Cubs. They’ll begin the night with an opener (?) in Jared Koenig, a lefty who pitched for the Oakland A’s in 10 games during the 2022 season and is now with the Brewers making his 14th appearance of 2024.
Koenig, who does not appear to be related to Walter “Chekov” Koenig, enters the night with a 2.70 ERA / 4.24 FIP. The lefty tossed 43 pitches his last time out but has usually tossed around 25-30 per outing so this could be a short night for him if the Sox make contact.
Rob Refsnyder, noted lefty masher is not in the lineup tonight. Likely because Bryse Wilson was the expected starter. However, Wilson might enter for the long relief portion of the opener strategy, much like Nick Pivetta last season for the Sox.
Kutter Crawford is coming off a strong start of 5.2 innings allowing just a single run while striking out 5 against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Sox lost that game but Crawford looked good.
First pitch is at 7:10 PM ET on WEEI and Apple TV+
