Michael Fulmer also went four scoreless innings.
After a rainy Saturday, the WooSox exploded onto the scene in game two, making a complete turnaround in a shutout. In this shutout, there is one very particular number one prospect in baseball who performed quite well, going yard not once, but twice. Let’s get into it!
Worcester: W, 12-0 (BOX SCORE)

While the Red Sox had trouble in Texas getting runners across the plate, especially with runners in scoring position, the AAA squad in Worcester had 14 such opportunities Sunday, and seven of those resulted in runs. Now, let’s get to the headline: the WooSox have one heck of a leadoff guy! Roman Anthony homered in his last two at-bats and added in two walks on the day, scoring each of those times, too, courtesy of Trayce Thompson and Marcelo Mayer hits. Mayer himself had two hits on the day, Thompson had three, and Nick Sogard had two. Just as the top of the lineup struggled on opending day going 0-for-15, they went for 9-for-16 on Sunday. This one was wrapped up in the bottom of the fifth, and the WooSox only added more runs on.

It helps that the pitching was spot on as well, giving up only four Mets hits. Michael Fulmer, who starts his season in Worcester after undergoing an elbow surgery, was limited to 54 pitches in this game and got five strikeouts while giving up just two hits and not issuing any walks. Shane Drohan, Hobie Harris, Bryan Mata, and Luis Guerrero carried this the rest of the way. Try to contain yourself about this Roman Anthony game, though… unless this afternoon sees more offensive droughts in Baltimore.
Have a happy Monday!
