A couple more losses to read about, but at least the lead-off hitter is present.
That Red Sox game last night was DREADFUL. Giving up 11 runs to the White Sox, committing five fielding errors, seeing Chase Meidroth never FAIL to reach base in his Major League debut… the season is young so I will spare most of the doom and gloom, but did I mention this Chicago team also has Kyle Teel, Wikelman Gonzalez and Braden Montgomery bubbling in the organization?
Annnnnywhoooo, there was minor league baseball played Friday, too. How would it feel if I told you there was really nothing good to speak of in those games, either? Want to know more? Let’s get into it, I guess…
As a disclaimer, Greenville and Salem’s games were postponed until today due to some storms in the southeast. This recap will, mercifully, only have Worcester and Portland results.
Worcester: L, 2-9 (BOX SCORE)

The WooSox had five hits on Friday night, as six batters struck out multiple times. Three of those five hits, though, came from the bat of Roman Anthony, including a 2-RBI double, his second of the night, to cut the lead to 6-2, where things would not got any better against Columbus (Guardians AAA). Taking a backseat to the silent bats: this was Brayan Bello’s third consecutive iffy appearance on the mound facing Triple-A talent. As rough as Sean Newcomb’s outing was tonight, I’m in no rush to have Bello pitch significant innings for this team with this bullpen also needing to put in as much work as they’ve been lately. Add in the Clippers also peppering Cooper Criswell around for four runs in two innings, and it really gives credence to talks that this relief isn’t bolstered as deep as we had thought this offseason…. yet again. Forgive me for being pessimistic on the Minor Lines, but the first line of defense against a fatigued and bare roster is now 4-8 and falling behind in games early and never recovering, and it all seems too familiar.
Portland: L, 4-5 (10) (BOX SCORE)

New Hampshire (Blue Jays AA) handed the Sea Dogs just their second loss of the season. None of the pitching was too bad, including starter David Sandlin (the return on John Schreiber) who’s looked pretty decent so far in 2025. But the team was hitless in seven chances with runners in scoring position, including a chance to tie the game up in extras. There are two guys in this lineup who ended the game over the Mendoza line in the young season, speaking to the effectiveness of the pitching but also how much of an impact these bats could have if they just woke up. It wasn’t all bad: Max Ferguson, who’s showing some versatility by playing left field (he’s usually a shortstop) had two stolen bases, Corey Rosier had one of his own as well as a hell of an outfield assist and Mikey Romero hustled for a triple and later scored from a Password sacrifice fly, but there wasn’t enough urgency to last a full game from anyone Friday…. organization-wide.
Have a happy Saturday. it can’t get worse, especially for those who woke up to snow on the ground on Friday. Right?… Right?
