He looked better on Sunday, but some questions remain.
How awesome was yesterday? 18 runs in the nightcap following Wilyer Abreu as he continued his Player of the Month case by walking off the Cardinals… what a Sunday at Fenway. The farm was not nearly as exciting, but Brayan Bello had another rehab appearance and the Sea Dogs had a promising prospect on the mound, as well.

Bello had another rehab appearance, limited to only working within the fourth inning. It didn’t go fantastically, but he did keep the Jumbo Shrimp (Marlins AAA) to one run and Wyatt Mills got out of Bello’s jam seamlessly. The WooSox had no power to speak of at the plate Sunday, managing six scattered hits but striking out another dozen times, three each from their most productive batters not named Marcelo Mayer (who was a healthy scratch Sunday) on Saturday, Roman Anthony and Nate Eaton. Isaiah Campbell got walked off. Not an ideal end to the series, but Tuesday is another day and another series.
Portland: W, 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Just as Worcester got walked off, Portland had a clutch run in the ninth inning, courtesy of a Reading (Phillies AA) fielding error to put Password Garcia on base, and Garcia eventually got plated from a Ronald Rosario single. It would not have been possible without solid pitching all night. Connelly Early started things out with seven strikeouts on the mound in a hitless effort, and the Sea Dogs pitching staff held the Fightin’ Phils to 3 hits while sitting them down on strikes 14 times.
Greenville: L, 1-10 (BOX SCORE)

Another not ideal night for Greenville, who slips to 1-2 against the Hot Rods (Rays High-A). Jedixson Paez simply didn’t go long in this game and the reliever Erik Garcia gave six runs up, albeit one unearned, and Adam Smith’s three allowed added insult to injury. It’s not like the Drive had offensive star power or helped the pitchers out in the field: Greenville committed three errors, which didn’t help matters, and Nazzan Zanetello was the only batter with multiple hits.
Salem: W, 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Red Sox held off a ninth-inning Shorebirds (Orioles A) rally to go to 3-0 thanks to a dependable eight-out, six-strikeout relief appearance by Matt McShane, which included getting out of a bases loaded jam to finish an inning. McShane’s decision win was aided two separate RBI hits by Nataniel Yuten, who, after his strong end to 2024’s season, seems like a prime promotion candidate shortly. 19-year-old leadoff hitter Frank Arias also continued his 3-out-of-3 game hitting streak.
