Plenty of good pitching leads to three wins on the farm; Casas rips two hits in his final rehab appearance.
Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 4, Worcester Red Sox 1 (7 inn.) BOX
The lone “L” in the Sox system on Thursday came in Worcester in a game that was shortened to 6.5 innings. With Kyle Teel walking to lead off the bottom of the seventh before the delay, and nine outs to go, I tend to think the Woo Sox had a comeback in the making. Therefore, there were no losses on the farm yesterday.
Lehigh (Phillies) got three runs in the third inning off of starter Justin Hagenman who allowed eight hits and three runs in four innings, striking out five. Triston Casas was responsible for two of the Woo Sox’ three hits on the day, including an RBI double to score Chase Meidroth in the bottom of the third. Casas finished his rehab with a .300/.404/.550 slash line in 11 games (12-for-40) and will join the Red Sox in Baltimore this evening, his first appearance since April 20.

Teel struck out swinging, grounded out to first, and walked in his three plate appearances. He’s 0-for-9 with two walks and five strikeouts since his promotion. Roman Anthony struck out twice and grounded out to short. He’s now 3-for-11 at Worcester.
The Iron Pigs added a run in the top of the 7th, which Worcester was unable to match due to the rain, and got the “Win”. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Quinn Priester (3-2, 5.18) will throw for Worcester at 6:45 tonight against TBD.
Portland Sea Dogs 5, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 3 (BOX)
The Sea Dogs continued their scorching hot stretch to take down Binghamton (Mets) 5-3 on Thursday. RBI hits in the early innings by Nathan Hickey, Phillip Sikes, Kristian Campbell, and Allan Castro gave Portland a 4-0 lead after four innings. Hickey added a second RBI double and also reached on two walks in the game. Tyler Miller added three hits, and Jhostynxon Garcia had two of his own.
Starter Caleb Bolden was excellent in four shutout innings, striking out five. The asinine, archaic five-innings-for-a-win rule prevented Bolden from getting the W, which went to Jacob Webb who gave up two runs in four innings in relief, improving to 9-3. Christopher Troye picked up his second save.
Isaac Coffey (9-2, 3.62) takes the ball for Portland Friday at 7:05 ET against Jonathan Pintaro.
Greenville Drive 2, Aberdeen IronBirds 1 (BOX)
Some outstanding pitching performances for the Drive led them to a 2-1 win over the IronBirds (Orioles), not to be confused with the aforementioned Iron Pigs, on Thursday. Noah Dean got the start and struck out seven in four shutout innings. Jedixson Paez followed with four strong innings of his own, allowing a run and striking out four. Adam Smith locked it down for the save.
Both of the Drive’s runs came on productive outs early in the game, a sac fly from Miguel Ugueto and an RBI groundout from Bryan Gonzalez. Zach Ehrhard had two hits in the win.
Greenville will give Blake Wehunt (0-4, 5.40) the start at 7:05 tonight against Michael Forret.
Salem Red Sox 6, Fredericksburg Nationals 4 (BOX)
Now, I wasn’t able to get down to Virginia to see this game live, but I feel confident in saying that the “6” in the third column for Fredericksburg (Nationals) contributed to the Salem win on Thursday.
Five of these were throwing errors. There were plenty of positives in this one as well. Franklin Arias had three hits out of the leadoff spot, including an RBI single in the 6th to cap off a three-run inning to give Salem a 5-2 lead. Natanael Yuten had a multi-hit effort and an RBI single as well.
Eduardo Rivera started and allowed two runs in four innings, striking out four. Michael Sansone got the win with two shutout innings, and Trennor O’Donnell the save.
Cole Tolbert (0-1, 4.50) takes the hill against Travis Sthele at 7:05.
