As the MLB Hot Stove season heats up and teams strategize for the upcoming year, it’s not uncommon for unexpected players to capture the spotlight as primary targets for trades or signings. This offseason, right-hander Nick Pivetta has emerged as one of those intriguing surprises. According to insights shared by MLB Network’s JP Morosi on Tuesday, Pivetta is attracting attention thanks to a “surprisingly strong” market surrounding him.
“For someone who was 6-12 this year in the win-loss column and an ERA that doesn’t wow you, his Stuff+ and the peripheral numbers are all very good. Strikeouts-to-walks, he was up around almost five, in terms of the ratio.
“So with [Nick] Pivetta and the underlying numbers (10.2 K/9), that’s the number that executives around the industry are really drawn to. They believe he could become an even more impactful pitcher than he’s been to this point.”
