At least to agents and the media
Happy Monday.
Thanksgiving arrives this week.
Many, many, many moons ago this was a time when the Red Sox would make a big splash. Granted it’s really only twice. But each trade in 2003 and 2005 around Turkey Day bought a top-end pitcher to Boston.
Bob Nightingale is perhaps the baseball writer equivalent to a larger grain of salt. However he’s hearing the same things as everyone else.
This is why they met with Soto, told everyone how well it went, and informed agents that they not only want to sign one of the marquee free-agent pitchers in Corbin Burnes, Max Fried and Blake Snell, but actually want to sign two. They are adamant on signing at least one lefty between Fried and Snell.
Juan Soto is without a doubt the best player available. But adding two of Burnes, Fried, and Snell? That’s almost “pencil in 10 wins on top of 2024” just off the bat.
Again, we wait and see. Snell was available last year and the Sox didn’t jump on him when he was sitting in the cold looking for a contract.
Let’s hope Breslow is cooking up a big turkey for all these guys to join him at the table!
Talk about what you want and be good to one another.
