The puns last as long as the saga. Or I run out.
Happy Tuesday.
No news yet on the Red Sox and any free agent.
However if someone wants to “shut out” the Yankees from his services today…
41000 days ago (September 2, 1912), Red Sox ace Smoky Joe Wood shuts out the Yankees for his 30th win of the season. With the win, Boston finishes off a 10-0 sweep of games against the Yankees at the Polo Grounds.
This win is Wood’s eighth shutout of the season and second in a row.

Meanwhile Rob Manfred is testing the waters for the “Golden at-bat” or making pinch hitting better for TV and gambling and worse for the game.
The premise is that “the golden at-bat idea is to allow a team one opportunity to call upon a hitter who is in the lineup but not due for the upcoming at-bat. It’d be somewhat akin to pinch hitting with a player who is already in the game.” Do you want a pale imitation of Trout vs Ohtani in the WBC every night? If so this is for you!
Talk about what you want and be good to one another.
