Maybe try winning, that’s a good trick
Happy Tuesday.
Anyone else having flashbacks to the August 2006 four-game sweep where the Yankees basically ended the season?
Someone posted this to Reddit posing the question “Which teams are better at home than away? Best at home on the right.”
Who knew John Henry was such a fan of Weird Al? The team clearly dares to be stupid these days.
After two losses to the Toronto Blue Jays the Red Sox are even worse than that graph indicates. At 67-64 Boston is crashing back towards .500 and sits 10.5 games out in the AL East and 5.0 in the Wild Card race. Playoff odds cratering to 17.9% per FanGraphs. On August 1st they were nearly 37%.
Remembering 2004
Game 81: The Red Sox won this one 11-0 as Tim Wakefield out-dueled Barry Zito. Bill Mueller launched a 3-run homer while Manny and Papi combined for 0-9.
Game 131: Red Sox topped the Anaheim Angels in a bullpen battle to improve to 78-53. For Anaheim, starter Aaron Sele allowed 7 runs in 3.1 innings. Dependable reliever Scot Shields then gave up 5 more. On the Sox side, Bronson Arroyo allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 2.2 and was followed by a string of bullpen arms: Mike Meyers, Terry Adams, Mike Timlin, Alan Embree, and Curtis Leskanic.
Talk about what you want and be good to one another.
Breaking News:
Welcome back Rich Hill, apparently. After a brief stint in Worcester he’s shipping up to Boston!
Dick Mountain is back: After signing a minor-league contract on Aug. 15, the Red Sox are activating Rich Hill, sources say.
Hill, 44, made one appearance with Triple-A Worcester, throwing two hitless innings while recording two strikeouts.
