Plus, more reports of a Triston Casas trade
As the shock of the Garrett Crochet trade wares off, it’s clear that there’s still more work to do with this Red Sox roster. And we’re not just talking about bullpen help or a right-handed bat, either. According to one beat reporter, the Sox still plan on adding one more starting pitcher, either through free agency or another trade. (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)
Will that second starter be former Cy Young-winner Corbin Burnes? His market seems to have stalled in the wake of the deals for Blake Snell and Max Fried. While the Red Sox reportedly remain interested, the Giants and Blue Jays remain the consensus favorites. (Mark Fenisand, MLB.com)
And there’s still smoke around a trade with the Mariners for Luis Castillo, the highest paid an oldest member of Seattle’s rotation. But while we don’t know what the parameters of a Castillo deal would look like, we do know that the two teams have engaged in trade talks. In fact, one Seattle media outlet reports that the M’s turned down a one-for-one trade proposal that would’ve sent Triston Casas to Seattle for either Bryan Woo or Bryce MIller. (Ryan Divish, Adam Jude, Seattle Times)
As for that right-handed hitter, there continue to be whispers about the Red Sox being in on Teoscar Hernandez, just as they were last offseason. But, in light of the fact that Tyler O’Neill reports that, after initial discussions, the Red Sox showed very little interest in bringing him back, it’s hard to predict which direction Breslow is going to go with respect to the outfield and lineup.
