The versatile prospect continues his shocking rise through the farm system.
Rich Hill is officially in the building — the building in Worcester, anyway. Though we still don’t have a timetable for his return, he threw his first bullpen with the WooSox yesterday afternoon. He’ll travel with the team this week, but we don’t yet know when he’ll get into his first game or how much time he’ll need before he joins the big league club. We also, frankly, have no idea whether he’ll be remotely effective, but it’s a little late to be picky. (Julian McWilliams, Boston Globe)
How late is it exactly? Well, there are only 39 games left on the calendar, and the Red Sox are further out of a postseason spot today than they were a week ago. It’s no longer enough for the Sox to stay afloat, as they did by splitting a four-game set with the Baltimore Orioles; they need to start winning series. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
The Sox had a good chance of winning the series yesterday, but Kutter Crawford lost his command in the sixth inning. (Sean T. McGuire, NESN)
He won’t help the pitching staff — or the 2024 big league team in anyway, truthfully — but it’s nevertheless exciting to see prospect Kristian Campbell promoted to Worcester. Campbell began the year in single-A Greenville as a relative unknown before flying up the system this summer. (Connor Ryan, Boston.com)
Is it possible that Campbell beats Marcelo Mayer to the big leagues? Like Campbell, Mayer is just one step away, but he’s had trouble staying healthy. (Greg Dudek, NESN)
