Plus, Roman Anthony is destroying baseballs.
It’s really not hard to imagine a scenario wherein Wilyer Abreu isn’t on the Red Sox right now. Between Abreu, Jarren Duran, Masataka Yoshida, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Roman Anthony, the Red Sox appeared to have too many outfielders, and I know I was waiting for a logjam-clearing trade for most of the offseason. But Abreu ignored the rumors, kept working on his game, and has made tremendous strides. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
Even though it now looks like Wilyer won’t be going anywhere, that doesn’t mean we still don’t have something of an overcrowded outfield. That’s especially the case with Roman Anthony hitting rockets down in AAA. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)
But if you’ve been wondering whether we might see Roman Anthony sign a contract extension with the Sox a la Kristian Campbell, it sure doesn’t sound like it right now. (Rob Bradford, WEEI)
Michael Fulmer has had a front-row seat for Anthony’s hitting the past few weeks, but now that he’s been called up to the big league club, he’s going to have to rely on Minor Lines to track Anthony’s progress, just like the rest of us. But I doubt Fulmer’s complaining about that, especially since he’s literally been living out of a trailer as he’s been trying to get back to the Majors. (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)
Fulmer’s comeback story is already nice enough. Now let’s hope he can do something special on the mound, like Garrett Crochet did yesterday in nearly no-hitting the White Sox. As much as we all wanted to see the no-no, though, Alex Cora was relieved when Crohet’s bid was ended by a Chase Meidroth hit. (Adam London, NESN)
