According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the Boston Red Sox are among the teams looking to snatch Houston Astros star free agent Alex Bregman. The Red Sox have already been busy this offseason with the signings of Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler, Patrick Sandoval, and Jovani Moran. With the Astros moving on from their cornerstone franchise, the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, and the New York Yankees also target the clutch postseason star. The Detroit Tigers also bolstered their lineup by signing free agent Gleyber Torres. The American League continues to shine with quality free-agent acquisitions. Bregman is one of the top remaining free agents left to be signed.

Red Sox Join Interest of Star Infielder Alex Bregman
How Bregman Would Fit With the Red Sox
The Red Sox have joined the offseason interest with the Astros third baseman, pointing to some stipulations. If Bregman were to sign with the Red Sox, he would have to switch to second base. But if the Red Sox decide to trade Triston Casas, they could then position Rafael Devers at first base. This move weighs in a lot of factors. The likelihood of Casas being traded stands tall, as many teams are looking to fill their needs by adding a first baseman. Bregman has also expressed that he is open to playing second base. His willingness to move positions also showcases his interest in the Red Sox.
With Bregman’s postseason success and the Red Sox looking to make a push in 2025, he would be a solid addition. Bregman would provide the Red Sox with solid bat speed, versatility, drive, and hustle to compete, as well as successful speed with base running. In his career in the postseason, he has racked up 88 hits, gone yard 19 times, and scored 63 runs across 99 games. The AL East in 2025 is looking more competitive, especially with the Red Sox depth in their starting rotation. In 2024, Bregman smashed 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and collected 151 hits.
