Baseball is BACK!
Happy Truck Day!
The most official unofficial start of the 2025 season is upon us!
This year personally marks my 10th anniversary of vising Truck Day as a short detour on my commute into work. At just before 8 AM there wasn’t much of a crowd. Not even the media (I do try to get into the B-roll and get a laugh but sadly no cameras here. Possibly too much other news).
There were a couple seasons in which it didn’t happen — 2022, I believe, was lost to the lockout — but today was definitely one of the more pleasant days to walk through The Fens. Two years ago to the day Truck Day was part of the arctic blast.
But I couldn’t let down Over the Monster readers.
Anyway…
Everything is being loaded up as usual.
Oh sorry, old memes die hard. The truck will actually have, but is not limited to (I swear a few years ago I saw them loading statues):
- 20,400 baseballs
- 1,100 bats
- 200 batting gloves
- 200 batting helmets
- 320 batting practice tops
- 160 white game jerseys
- 300 pairs of pants
- 400 t-shirts
- 400 pairs of socks
- 20 cases of bubble gum
- 60 cases of sunflower seeds
All of this will head down to Florida, get unloaded, and then await the arrival of players.
The truck may be leaving an area that just got snow but it’s heading down to the warmer climate of Fort Myers.
If you’re in the Fenway area the truck is expected to depart at 1 PM with a stop at Polar Park, the home of the Worcester Red Sox. WooSox mascots like the smiley face will be on hand! You can also say hello to now legendary driver Al Hartz in his 28th year driving the truck.
