The Boston Red Sox began their final road trip of the season with a 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Monday night.
With the win, the Red Sox improved to 79-78, while the Blue Jays fell to 73-84.
Check out the full box score here.
ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
The Red Sox got what they needed out of Tanner Houck against the Blue Jays, and the offense did just enough to earn the right-hander his ninth win of the season.
Houck delivered an outstanding start, tossing five scoreless innings and surrendering just one hit and one walk to the 17 Toronto batters he faced.
Boston’s offense strung together four runs on five hits and 10 walks, seven of which came from Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt. The seven free passes from Bassitt was a season-high for the righty.
Wilyer Abreu and Vaughn Grissom each notched an RBI, while Ceddanne Rafaela knocked in a pair of runs in the Red Sox win. Jarren Duran had a solid night at the plate, hitting his 47th double and 14th triple of the season.
STARS OF THE GAME
— Houck got 10 Toronto batters to ground out and another five to fly out in the win.
— Abreu was one of two Red Sox batters with multiple hits in the game. The right fielder went 2-for-3 from the dish with an RBI and a run scored.
— Duran became the fourth Red Sox hitter, and the first since Jim Rice in 1978, to record at least 14 triples in a season.
