Should Anthony break camp with the big league team?
This is the second year in a row of the MLB Spring Breakout, and the second year in a row of me being confused about what exactly the MLB Spring Breakout is. But, hey, I’m not going to complain about something that gives the Big Three a chance to introduce themselves to the wider world like they did last night.
All three of Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kristian Campbell homered as the Sox breakout team lost to the Rays prospects. Mayer and Campbell’s homers were back-to-back:
But it was Anthony who stole the show with a home run that could be legally classified as a deadly weapon:
And, yes, in case you couldn’t pick it up from that clip, there were Rays fans chanting “overrated” in the middle of that swing:
I could watch the Roman Anthony home run amidst the overrated chants on repeat. Volume up! This ball was smoked 110 mph and went 435 feet. pic.twitter.com/G0VRUZtLg9

Good God! We have a cinematic slow motion shot!
Roman Anthony is the No. 2 prospect in baseball for a reason! #SpringBreakout pic.twitter.com/hdyvw6LpA6

And isn’t this cute: they posed together for a photo after the game:

Look: I know the rational move is to keep Anthony in Worcester and let him develop a bit more. The Red Sox outfield is crowded as it is — and crowded in a good way, with plenty of talent. When Wilyer Abreu returns (and word is he’s close) there won’t be an obvious place for Anthony in the lineup and there’s no need to rush him in general.
But being rational is tired and boring. I want Roman Anthony in the big leagues and I want him there on Opening Day.
