Keep .500 alive!
After failing to win enough games against the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, and Chicago White Sox over the last week and a half, the Red Sox season is on life support as they prepare for three games at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles and four on the road against the Yankees.
Sitting just one game over .500, a sweep by the Orioles would see Boston walk into Yankee stadium with a losing record.
The Red Sox enter this series currently 3-7 against Baltimore. Although two of those wins came back during that still hopeful time of mid-August when they split four games with the Birds on the road. In fact, their third win was also on the road. During their first visit to Fenway Park in April the O’s swept.
In the Sox favor?
Well, Bello allowed 1 run in 6.0 innings just a couple weeks ago. Povich? 2 runs in 6.1. But the Sox won that game. And Crawford allowed just 3 runs in 5.1 innings. It’s…just not a terrible match-up. Which doesn’t mean humiliation isn’t coming.
The Sox will miss Corbin Burnes. Which is good even if they knocked him around last time.
Trevor Story already got his first hit after returning from injury out of the way. Maybe if he can play defense that will be enough to help the Sox salvage at least a .500 record. Or at least something better than 78-84.
