Orioles and Cardinals and Blue Jays oh my!
The Red Sox are staying on the road a few more days. After a series in Arlington against the Texas Rangers they will face a flock. Three games in Maryland against the Baltimore Orioles, three games at home against the St. Louis Cardinals, and hosting the Toronto Blue Jays for a four-game set. Let the bird times roll.
Boston enters the second series of the season 1-3 while the Orioles are 2-2.
The stories for the Red Sox? Kristian Campbell impressing. Wilyer Abreu picking up where he left off in his 2024 campaign.
What about Baltimore? Well…six home runs in game one, one homer in game two, three homers in game three, and somehow none in game four. The Orioles have scored 24 runs to the Red Sox 11. On the other side of the ledger though the O’s have allowed 18 runs while the Sox only gave up 13 to the Rangers. And that’s the key. Obviously wins and losses don’t matter four games in, but margin can tell more of the story. Despite a little bit of up and down, the pitching did enough to carry the weekend.
Adley Rutschman, who slumped in the second half last year, has two of those homers from the Baltimore offensive explosion.
The Sox have Wilyer Abreu’s two homers to match.
They have Kristian Campbell off to a hot start to his major league career.
They have an ice cold Rafael Devers and Tristian Casas. That’s not going to last. And once Devers gets the first hit we’re off to the races.
