The (yuck) first place Yankees
The Red Sox are back on the road after taking 2-3 from the Baltimore Orioles. This time they’re headed to New York City (New York City!?!?) and not to Queens.
Nope they’re headed to Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees continue to hold onto first place in the AL East with a second half record of 26-22. For reference the Sox are at 21-29.
It’s been a down time for New York but with the Orioles coming back to earth playing 25-26 ball since the All Star Break it hasn’t really mattered.
Aaron Judge has hit .204/.358/.259 with 0 home runs since August 25th.
Juan Soto has hit .211/.328/.368 with 2 home runs during the same span.
Picking up the slack though has bee Jazz Chisholm. Since returning from the IL he’s slashed .284/.333/.433. He also has 2 homers in this span, more than Aaron Judge!
Anthony Volpe, the MVP of April, is hitting .264/.295/.401 since the break.
The pitching matchups…well, it’s a strong rollout for the Red Sox. That’s a very relative term. Since June these guys have struggled. But also put up some solid-to-gem outings. Andrew Bailey’s fantastic work out the gate has regressed a bit – plus wear and tear as the season goes on – have balanced out. As a whole, the rotation simply doesn’t look great. But the bats can help on the nights they don’t look lost.
