If we’re gonna hate, let’s do it properly, and scientifically.
Like most of you, I hate the Yankees. Always have and always will. But I love different flavors of hate, so I want to know: Which Yankee do you hate the most?
There are too many options, between yesteryear and today, to tidily fit into a poll, though I suspect Gerrit Cole laps the field among modern Bronx Bombers. He sucks! Expand the window, however, and his candidacy might be considered quaint, given the domination the Yankees put on the league in the late 1990s, and the sheer number of douches they ran out during that time.
Or maybe it isn’t quaint: Per my entirely non-scientific “how old are you?” poll, more than half of you weren’t born before the landmark 2001 World Series, which ended a half-decade of New York dominance. The most hated player since then, I’m guessing, is a group of some combination including Cole, A-Rod, Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner, Alex Verdugo and everyone else who sucks (almost all of them).
The thing is, if I know Red Sox fans well, and let’s just say I do, there’s one Yankee that steams you more than all the rest of ‘em. For me, it’s Scott Brosius, the dipshit third baseman for several of those late-’90s teams. I hate that guy! He wasn’t even good! Yet Yankees fans celebrate him like we celebrate Rafael Devers. That’s some bullshit!
Sound off in the comments about your least favorite Yankee ever and why they’re your least favorite Yankee ever, and if it’s indeed Cole, congrats to me for figuring it out. But also fill out this poll first:
