But you knew that already.
While I watched the Red Sox fall behind in counts and struggle to collect hits Tuesday, it was Bat Day in Lehigh Valley (Phillies AAA) as the WooSox teed off for a dozen hits and – wouldn’t you know it! – 14 runs. The effort featured lots of guys who’d made an impact in Boston, one way or another, this season. Let’s get into it.
Worcester: W, 14-9 (BOX SCORE)
Jason Alexander had a season-best performance last week, striking out eleven and going seven strong. Tuesday’s outing was…. not that, but he still came away with the W because the offense was so incredibly good. Worcester made the IronPigs experience a death by a thousand paper cuts, as Kyle Teel knocked the only extra base hit of the night for Worcester, while the team collected eight hits with runners in scoring position. Roman Anthony had three hits, Mickey Gasper had two (and remaining over 1.000 in the OPS category, trying to make an extremely early case for Quad-A hall of famer), and Teel drove in two runs. This was a huge game in the case for “guys to look out for” if Craig Breslow does what I fear this winter and isn’t too aggressive… but one or two pitchers and an infielder (as well as one lefty killer… your mileage may vary) may go a long way.
Have a happy Wednesday!
